MOVEMENT FOR MOBILITY

"My hopes and dreams for this movement is that it will result in more inclusive and accessible spaces within the school district. . .I also hope this movement can open the eyes of others. To make others understand we do not want pity or special treatment-we want equal access."

Shayla McKinley, ELC parent

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to advocate for accessible playground equipment and school buildings for all students regardless of their development, disability, or age.

OUR VISION

Our vision is that every student in Big Walnut will be able to access their school environment with ease and equity together.

WE NEED YOUR HELP

We are partnering with Big Walnut Schools to ensure accessibility for all students, however this process is an expensive one. Big Walnut is currently using available school funds and monies from IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) to make appropriate and accessible upgrades to our schools, which is amazing! However, we do not have enough to fund some of the bigger, and most important, upgrades.

Your donation, no matter how big or small, can get us closer to our goal of accessible schools!

YOUR DONATION IS TAX DEDUCTIBLE

Lesley Shryock,

BW Physical Therapist

This is important to make sure ALL our students have the opportunity to play and move! I want families and the entire BW community see and know how important including everyone is! And take joy toward that end!

Awny Kingsley,

Preschool Intervention Specialist

Accessibility is a right, not a privilege. My goal is to advocate for my students like my mom advocated for my father, who had a mobility impairment. We can’t teach inclusion in our classrooms and accept exclusion outside of them. I want every student to feel accepted, included and know that they matter, down to the smallest detail.

Cole McKinley,

ELC parent

This is important to me to restore the dignity of those impacted. It’s our responsibility to be the voice of those unheard.

WHY IS THIS SO IMPORTANT TO US

This movement is important to me because people with disabilities are just that, people. My daughter’s physical disability does not stop her from wanting just what other children want-to be included and play with her peers. It is a violation of her civil rights to not have access within her school building. The fact that this form of discrimination, or any for that matter, still exists in 2022 makes my heart hurt.
This movement is important to me because it can bring change.

ELC Parent
